Field Notes
Fresh from the field: Uganda’s wildlife in photographs
Our latest gallery brings together 68 original moments from the road: elephants, lions, giraffes, rhinos, buffaloes, primates, waterfalls, salt lakes, and wide-open park landscapes.
These images now help travelers see the character of a safari before choosing a route. The full-resolution photographs are available in the Safari Gallery.
Short, useful notes that can grow into a regular source of tour news and destination guidance.
Primate Travel
Chimpanzee tracking or habituation in Kibale?
Chimpanzee tracking is designed around a focused forest encounter. The habituation experience gives visitors more time with a semi-habituated community and a deeper look at chimp behavior, research, and the rhythm of the forest.
Plan early because permits and group sizes are controlled. Kibale also combines naturally with crater lakes, Queen Elizabeth National Park, and longer western Uganda circuits.
Murchison Falls can include Nile bird watching, sport fishing, and an authorized night game drive in addition to the falls and daytime wildlife routes. Queen Elizabeth adds the Kazinga Channel boat ride and the forested Kyambura Gorge.
Special activities depend on permits, park rules, season, and availability, so they should be requested while the itinerary is being built.
Rwenzori or Mount Elgon: choosing your mountain journey
The Rwenzori range suits travelers looking for dramatic high-altitude scenery, multi-day trekking, or a technical summit plan. Mount Elgon offers varied forest trails, a broad volcanic landscape, waterfalls, caves, and shorter Sipi-based experiences.
Your route should match fitness, available days, season, equipment, and comfort level. Augur can arrange transport and connect mountain plans with other regions.
Why Ziwa fits naturally into a Murchison itinerary
Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary gives travelers a guided on-foot rhino tracking experience and a chance to learn about rhino conservation in Uganda. Its location makes it a practical stop on a northern circuit.
A well-timed visit can be combined with Murchison Falls without turning the route into a rushed checklist.
A Rwanda extension can include Kigali, Volcanoes National Park, Akagera, or a relaxing Lake Kivu stay. It works especially well with south-western Uganda routes when border timing, permits, and transport are planned together.
