How to Plan Your First Uganda Safari

A practical Uganda safari planning checklist covering your travel dates, wildlife interests, route, accommodation and the information to include in a safari enquiry.

Start with the experience you want

Tell your travel planner what matters most: gorilla trekking, wildlife viewing, birdwatching, cultural experiences or a quieter break. Choose a few priorities rather than trying to include every destination in one trip.

Share your dates and group details

Send your arrival and departure dates, number of travellers, room preferences and a budget range. Mention children in the group and any accessibility needs early so suitability can be discussed before reservations.

Allow time for the journey

Ask for a day-by-day route with realistic transfer times, rest stops and overnight locations. If gorilla trekking is part of your trip, ask how the trekking location, accommodation and onward transport fit together. Confirm current permit availability and conditions before committing to flights or payments.

Compare what the quote includes

• Airport pickup and drop-off arrangements.
• Vehicle, driver or guide, fuel and planned journeys.
• Accommodation, room types and included meals.
• Activities, permits and entry fees where applicable.
• Payment schedule, cancellation conditions and excluded costs.

Confirm the final itinerary and total price in writing. Activities and accommodation remain subject to availability until confirmed.

Prepare a clear enquiry

You can copy this message: “We are planning a Uganda safari for [number] travellers, arriving [date] and departing [date]. We are interested in [experiences], prefer [room style], and have a budget of [amount and currency]. Please suggest an itinerary and explain what the quote includes.”
